Saturn wasn’t very high up yet, and the Meteoblue forecast wasn’t promising (seeing >1.6), but I had fixed an electrical issue,
so I went out to check that everything was working (naturally, the cable repair that had been giving me such a hard time… didn’t work!)
Given the circumstances, I drove up a hill near my home (usually I travel 35 minutes to reach an altitude of 700m);
here I was at 240m, just 5 minutes from home, on the side facing the Po Valley.
And… well… it was magnificent at the eyepiece; the seeing was steady—just a bit of distortion lasting a few seconds here and there, but otherwise truly excellent.
As soon as I hit 150x magnification, I was struck by the reflection of the rings onto the planet itself.
I don’t recall ever seeing that before; it was beautiful.
It was also a lucky time for the White Spot and the spokes, which were positioned at the most photogenic spot.
